According to the Department of Commerce, nearly 127,000 jobs were lost in U.S. sugar-using industries between 1997 and 2011, and sugar subsidies played a major part in these job losses. Communities from coast to coast rely on confectionery and other food and beverage manufacturing jobs to employ workers, pay taxes, and sustain local economics.
